Dude....why rear view mirrors??
Ever since I saw my first early '90s Gentex auto-dimming mirror, I was fascinated by them. Sure, they're commonplace now, but it was a revolutionary advancement at the time. You mean to tell me instead of flipping the day/night tab on the bottom of a traditional mirror, there's a technology in this thing that automatically allows the glass to darken to varying degrees depending on the brightness of the lights behind you?? I was hooked.

The first generation originally only had auto-dimming but was followed very quickly after by the addition of an optional digital compass display, and things just got crazier from there. The next generation had versions with a dual display that also showed the outside temperature beneath the compass. Then they teamed up with HomeLink's universal garage door opener systems, featuring 3 buttons that allowed you to program any compatible devices (garage doors, gates, lights, etc). They even made some with LED map/reading lights for vehicles whose only source for overhead dome lighting was the mirror. Each new feature left me saying, "ohhhh, they have THAT now??"

Right away, I realized it was not very difficult to add one of these mirrors to ANY car, regardless of whether it was an option/too old or not. Being a big car enthusiast who loved customizing my vehicles (so long as it looked clean and factory), this was a huge find for me. It meant being able to update to features that would otherwise not be easily possible. For example, for cars with no factory navigation option, at least you have a compass showing what direction you're heading in. If there was no digital/automatic climate controls available for your car, you could still see what the outside temperature was. And if you need those features without losing the map/reading lights on your stock mirror, that was possible too!

Needless to say, I was not alone in my enthusiasm. I found that LOTS of car enthusiasts wanted to either add this modern touch to their older cars that predated the option, or even newer cars that had the option, but their particular car didn't get it. Not to mention if you go with a custom install, you can chose which features you want as opposed to being at the mercy of the mirror the manufacturer decided to go with for that particular make.

And so, here we are! After years of attending car shows as a vendor to sell these mirrors and being asked about buying online (there are only so many mirrors I can take with me), I have FINALLY decided to launch a site so enthusiasts around the country can have easy access to a wide combinations of features to get just the right mirror for them. And whether you're doing it yourself or having a shop do it, everything you need for installation (short of some additional length of wire) is included with each purchase!
